Carlos Garaicoa’s Models C (Models of Confinement) is a series of graphite drawings that explores the psychological architecture of isolation. These imagined structures arise not from the social energy of the city, but from its absence—from solitude, fear, and a retreat into the self. Echoing the romantic ruins of Claude Lorrain, the shadowed silence of de Chirico, and the melancholy precision of Piranesi, Garaicoa envisions buildings that reflect a desire to withdraw from a world in crisis. These are not utopian plans but poetic blueprints for a private exile, confronting the collapse of urban life as a space for community and public encounter. Yet amid the silence, a fragile sense of hope remains: a half-open door, a space for reflection, a reminder that even in solitude, the human spirit continues to imagine.
