The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York presents an exhibition dedicated to Moroccan artist Yto Barrada, spanning over two decades of her interdisciplinary practice, in the latest iteration of MoMA’s Artist’s Choice exhibition series. It runs from 8 May 2021 - 9 January 2022.
Yto Barrada: Ways to Baffle the Wind brings together photography, film, textiles and sculpture to explore themes of resistance, displacement and cultural memory through a lens that is both personal and political. Barrada’s work is rooted in storytelling and the reimagining of history, often drawing from her native Tangier to reflect on broader postcolonial and ecological concerns. With a distinctive blend of wit and critical inquiry, the exhibition underscores Barrada’s pivotal role in contemporary art.
This exhibition coincides with her inclusion in Trilogía marroquí (1950–2020), a major group show currently on view at Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid from 31 March - 27 September 2021.
