Shirin Neshat and Sarah Brahim's exhibition 'Cartographies of Presence' is highlighted as part of Dazed's top shows to see this September.
The show is an intergenerational conversation between the artists whose practices manifest across performance, film, photography, and poetry to explore the intersection of the personal and political. Thinking through their different geographies of origin and the experience of living elsewhere, their work meets at an exploration of the body—not merely as a vessel, but as a language of memory, ritual, and defiance. Showcasing one of Neshat’s most iconic films, 'Passage' (2001), alongside Brahim’s newly commissioned film and photography, 'In Search of an Honest Map' (2025), the presentation focuses on how the language of the body and ritual can be used to voice metamorphosis, the unseen form, and the politics of belonging.
