
The Heart of the Matter: Carrie Mae Weems on Show at Gallerie d’Italia

British Journal of Photography's writer Isaac Huxtable reviews 'The Heart of the Matter', a comprehensive survey bringing together the Carrie Mae Weems’ landmark series with the global debut of a newly commissioned project.
Highlighting Weems' impact on contemporary art and photography practice, Huxtable speaks to key figures including Sarah Meister, executive director of Aperture and former MoMA curator, as well as references the photographers previous retrospective exhibitions.
The exhibition marked the global premiere of 'Preach', which explores religion and spirituality among African American communities across generations. Alongside iconic series including 'Roam', 'Leave Now!' and the 'Kitchen Table'.
