Guez’s Lilies of the Field series explores the layered histories of Jerusalem through luminous prints of pressed flowers sourced from the American Colony archive. These floral arrangements—once popular souvenirs among tourists and missionaries—embody devotional labor and reflect the diverse flora of the Holy Land. By preserving and recontextualizing them, Guez highlights the tension between natural beauty and acts of collection, framing the flowers as both sacred tokens and captured artifacts. His vivid use of color further complicates the imagery, contrasting with the actual conditions of the landscape from which the plants once grew.
