Guez’s Sabir captures a sunset over the Jaffa shoreline as Samira Monayer recounts her childhood in pre-1948 Jaffa and her family's displacement during the 1948 war. Speaking in both Arabic and Hebrew, her fluid bilingualism echoes the title sabir—a historic Mediterranean lingua franca rooted in the Latin word “to know.” As the light fades, her memories of home, exile, and survival blend with the landscape, evoking the passage of time and the persistence of personal history.
