The sculpture is a small corrugated water tank raised and supported on metal legs, painted black. It’s a familiar object, an ordinary thing, maybe made a little strange by its out-of-placeness.
“The tank was rescued from out of my son’s ceiling, but it is also a kind of re-working of previous work – not only of my own but of the possibilities made available by others: from the book of Becher photos I have on my shelf, from looking at a catalogue of rainwater tanks for a house I would like to build, from driving past the Johannesburg gas works every day, from remembering a drawing of a water tank I made in about 1985, from the childhood memory of pressing my cheek against the cool metal of the rainwater tank outside our kitchen, sensing the dark mass of water inside” - Jeremy Wafer
