Goodman Gallery, the leading gallery from the African continent, will present major exhibitions across France this summer as part of its 60th anniversary programme. Commencing in Paris from 17 April, Goodman Gallery will present a curated collection at Pierre Yovanovitch Mobilier, the leading interior architect and furniture designer.

With a longstanding sensitivity to African art, Pierre Yovanovitch invites Goodman Gallery to curate a presentation of works by key artists defining the contemporary scene today. The exhibition will feature works by El Anatsui, William Kentridge, Ghada Amer, Kapwani Kiwanga, and Pélagie Gbaguidi.

Featured Artworks

The exhibition opens on 17 April and will remain on show through to 29 August, coinciding with important institutional exhibitions for the artists. Kapwani Kiwanga will receive the prestigious Joan Miró Prize in Barcelona in May, while William Kentridge will have a major retrospective at BOZAR, Brussels in September. Forming part of Goodman Gallery’s 60th anniversary programme, the exhibition kicks off a season of artistic exchanges, bringing leading artists from the African continent and the diaspora to the South of France for the Summer Season.

Liza Essers, Owner and Director, Goodman Gallery said: “Pierre Yovanovitch is a world renown interior architect and tastemaker. It is such an honour to be hosted by Pierre in the beautiful Paris Gallery to bring together contemporary art and design into dialogue bringing leading artists from the Continent and Diaspora to Paris with its important history connecting Europe and Africa. We are thrilled to present major works by preeminent artists such as El Anatsui following his recent monumental commission for the TATE Samsung Turbine Hall Commission and recent drawings and bronze sculptures by William Kentridge’s whose 2024 LUMA exhibition in Arles addressed on a little known history of migration from France to Martinique during World War II. Francophone artists Kapwani Kiwanga, Ghada Amer and Pélagie Gbauguidi will be shown alongside, ahead of major museum exhibitions Kiwanga winning the Prix Joan Míro in Barcelona this May and Gbauguidi will be the subject of a career retrospective at Pompidou Kanal, Brussels in 2027.”

Pierre Yovanovitch, Founder, Pierre Yovanovitch Mobilier Gallery, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Goodman Gallery into our Paris space and, on this occasion, to shine a light on the vibrancy of the contemporary African artistic scene. A leading South African gallery on the international stage, Goodman presents artists whose work I deeply admire, including William Kentridge and El Anatsui. Their works enter into a natural dialogue with our furniture, through the strength of materials, forms, and presence, creating a dynamic and resonant exchange within the space.”
