Grada Kilomba and Kapwani Kiwanga Featured in Top Ten Shows Around the World in 2023 by FRIEZE
29 Dec 2023
The 35th São Paulo Biennial, curated by Manuel Borja Villel, Grada Kilomba, Diane Lima and Hélio Menezes, was named one of Frieze's Top Ten Shows Around the World in 2023. The large-scale exhibition, featuring 121 artists including Grada Kilomba, was praised for the curators' horizontal approach, which led to a fragmentation that supports a decolonial and transhistorical vision. The exhibition is listed alongside The Gwangju Biennial in South Korea and The 15th Sharjah Biennial.
The list also highlighted the first major solo exhibition by Kapwani Kiwanga in her native Canada, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Toronto where the artist explored the socio-ecological complexities of humanity's relationship with the natural world.
