Walter Oltmann’s Life-Sized Sculpture in the Stellenbosch Art Mile Group Exhibition

Reflection is an act of looking—outward and inward, forward and back. It is the throwing back of light, heat, or sound by a surface without absorbing it. It is the return of energy, an echo of what has come before. But to reflect is also to pause, to be pensive, to consider.
In the 2025/6 Stellenbosch Art Mile exhibition, kicking off in October 2025, artists were invited to engage with the concept of ‘Reflect’ in its broadest sense. Whether through the physical properties of mirrored surfaces and light, the doubling of forms, or deeper conceptual meditations on history, identity, and perception, this theme (hopefully) opens up infinite possibilities for artists to explore.
Through these diverse interpretations, ‘Reflect’ becomes a space for pause and consideration, where art serves as both a surface and a lens, prompting viewers to see anew—both themselves and the world around them.
