Following its critically-acclaimed debut at the Portland Art Museum, Thomas’ first major retrospective, _All Things Being Equal…_ is now on view at the Cincinnati Art Museum. The exhibition includes over 90 works of art, including sculptures, multimedia works, and monumental textiles, photographs, interactive video installations and public art projects, which span twenty-five years of the artist’s practice.
Overall, _All Things Being Equal…_ echoes themes that Thomas has explored throughout his career, including the human cost of gun violence, the influence of corporate branding, the origins and applications of ideas of gender and race, the interconnected global fight for liberty and equality, and the significance of participation—both in art experiences and in larger civic life. Additionally, Thomas's capacity to reframe texts, photographs, and materials to link past periods of resistance to our lives today is highlighted in the exhibition, as is his mining of both public and private archives.
