William Kentridge Opens Largest Exhibition in the UK at The Royal Academy of Arts
24 Sep 2022
William Kentridge takes over the Royal Academy’s Main Galleries with the largest exhibition of his work ever staged in the UK — part of the Royal Academy’s acclaimed series of single-artist shows.
Spanning 40 years, the exhibition features important works, including charcoal drawings, animated films, a mechanical theatre, sculptures and tapestries.
While at times his work is semi-autobiographical, Kentridge uses history to highlight the inequities, barbarity, and absurdities of the modern world. A particular area of focus is the European colonisation of and the ongoing post-colonial legacy across the African continent.
