William Kentridge’s critically acclaimed Barbican performance, SIBYL, showcases the renowned South African artist’s distinctive fusion of visual art, music, and theatre.
Co-commissioned by the Barbican and featuring original compositions by Nhlanhla Mahlangu and Kyle Shepherd, SIBYL comprises two compelling parts: The Moment Has Gone, a film with live piano and vocal accompaniment, and Waiting for the Sibyl, a chamber opera that reflects on fate and uncertainty. This multidisciplinary production highlights Kentridge’s masterful storytelling and his signature charcoal animations, cementing his status as one of the most influential contemporary artists working across visual and performance art.
